Chiropractic Care: Taking A Team Approach

Did you know chiropractic care is over 115 years old?  Chiropractic care is the second largest healing profession in the world, and its success is primarily due to delivering safe non-invasive healthcare that aims to work with your body whenever possible.

The word chiropractic is a joining of two Latin words.  Chiro means "hand" and practic means "done by".  So chiropractic literally means "done by hand".  Chiropractic care strives to provide hands-on care that naturally restores health and promotes wellness.

Your body has a built-in ability to heal itself from many illnesses.  Think about it, have you ever cut your finger?  If so, is it still cut?  Maybe if you cut it yesterday, but most cuts are healed within a few days to weeks. Did you ever wonder how did that happen?  It was your body's built-in healing and defense mechanisms at work.

In addition to healing cuts, your body can also raise its temperature to kill a foreign virus or bacteria, grow new bone to repair a fracture, and stitch partial muscle tears back together all on its own.  All of this is done without you even thinking about it.

So what causes this healing process?  What controls it?  That's the million-dollar question, but what we do know is that your nervous system is primarily responsible for regulating your body's overall health and response to illnesses.  A healthy nervous system gives your body the best chance to fight off infections and heal from injuries on its own.

Chiropractors are trained to understand your nervous system and to recognize when it is or is not functioning properly.  One of the most common causes of nervous system dysfunction is misalignments of our spinal vertebrae due to injury or poor posture.  These misalignments put pressure, irritation, or inflammation on the spinal cord and the nerves that exit the spine.  This can cause symptoms such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, numbness, tingling, and over time can attribute to other internal health disorders.  In order to help their patients, chiropractors use hands-on treatments called adjustments to improve function, alignment, and posture.

Now, not all illnesses and injuries can be healed by your body, and that's where medical care comes in to save the day.  Family medical providers are highly trained to recognize and intervene when your body is struggling or unable to heal itself.  Many family medical providers, including those at The Back & Body Clinic, practice the newest and least invasive techniques to do only what is necessary to get patients well.

So how can you experience the best of all that healthcare has to offer?  By choosing a clinic that uses an integrative team approach, like The Back & Body Clinic.  Every day, our family medical and chiropractic providers perform a team meeting where we review and share how we can best serve our patients together.  We then recommend the best treatments from multiple disciplines to help you get better and stay better.

At the end of the day, the greatest reason for our coming together is to transform healthcare to better help people like you.
